CampVandy Summer Camp


CampVandy is a day camp accommodating up to 150 children from 4 to 12 years of age.It runs for 10 weeks during the summer months from May 27 – August 2nd. Space is limited so REGISTER EARLY!!

Camp Sessions

Camp Sessions run from Monday – Friday, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. A maximum of 150 participants can be accommodated weekly. The cost is $155 per camper per week for the Nashville Community and $140 per camper per week for all Vanderbilt employees and current Rec. Center Members. Cost includes special activities, arts and crafts, kids climb, a camp T-shirt, two snacks and drinks each day. For your convenience, we offer a ten week camp with early and after-care. Each care services adds an additional fee of $25.00 per week, or $50.00 for both early and after-care. Early care hours are from 7:00 am to 9:00 am, and after-care hours are from 4:15 pm to 6:00 pm.

Each week has its own camp theme in which the activities and special events are based.                                                                            

  1. May 27 – May 31 (Community Connection Week)* OPEN
    Who is your neighbor?  This week, campers will discover they have neighbors all around!  Campers will form new friendships with their peers and counselors.  CampVandy will connect to the Vanderbilt community by touring some of Vanderbilt’s exciting facitlites.  Campers have the opportunity to give back to the larger world community through Soles 4 Soles and an early Winter Coat Drive to support local community help groups.  People make the world go’round!
  2. June 3-7 (CV Spirit Week) OPEN
    Back by popular demand, CampVandy Spirit Week will really get the campers up and cheering!  From Costume Day to Wacky Wednesday, this week will be full of excitement!  Campers will break out paint and brushes to create CampVandy Spirit Banners that will adourn our gymnasium for our Campers vs. Counselor’s Good Games Day.  We got spirit-yes we do!
  3. June 10-14 (Olympic Week) OPEN
    Grab your passport for an adventure around the world.  Our first stop:  Greece.  Campers will learn about the history of the Olympic Games and the famous Olympic Rings symbol.  After creating flags from various countries, campers prepare for a celebration of Nations Parade, The week would not be complete without CampVandy Olympics.  Let the games begin!
  4. June 17-21 (Science and Weather Week) OPEN
    Campers use their senses to exploe the universe through “interactive discovery.”  Get ready to talk weather with Snowbird from WSMV Channel 4.  CampVandy welcomes the Science Guy for some mad science experiments.  Campers, grab your goggles and scientific rakes for our Big Big Hunt!
  5. June 24 – June 28 (Performance Week) OPEN
    Express yourself!  Music, dance, art, and comedy–all kinds of creative expressions find their way to the CampVandy’s Got Talent stage.  Campers experience the talents of local artist and create their very own masterpeices.
  6. July 1,2,3,5 (Stars and Stripes/Military Week)** OPEN
    CampVandy’s seeing red, white, and blue!  This week, campers celebrate America’s independence and connect with local veterans through letter writing and art.  Campers are treated to a camp-wide-cook-out featuring some of their favorite summer foods.  Happy Birthday, USA!
  7. July 8-12 (Go Green Week) OPEN
    It’s easy being green!  Campers trail nature while learning ways to help preserve our wonderful planet.  Get ready to make artistic creations using only recycled items.  With a recycling contest and a relay race, we are sure to pave a better tomorrow!
  8. July 15-19 (Amazing Animals Week) OPEN
    Lions and tigers and bears —oh my!  Campers transform into their favorite animals through face paint and drama.  A highlight of the week—CampVandy welcomes the Nashville Zoo!
  9. July 22-26 (Fitness + Nutrition Week) OPEN
    Get ready, get ready, get ready!  The aroma of popcorn is in the air.   Clowns, games, prizes, and music provide the ingredients for a fun and exciting CampVandy Carnival.  Campers enjoy a special magic show.
  10. July 29 – Aug. 2 (Black & Gold Back 2 School Week) OPEN
    Celbrate good times–come on!  CampVandy savors the final week before the end of summer.  Campers reflect on their summer break and create vision collages for their upcoming school year.  Waterslides, games, and activities are sure to bring the summer to a magnificent close.

*CampVandy will be open on Mon., May 27, Memorial Day Holiday

** Week 6 will be pro-rated for the Independence Day Holiday, NO camp that day.

Registration

For detailed information please click here for registration package. Registration forms may be mailed or dropped off in the Office of Campus Recreation during office hours Monday – Friday 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

  • Registration begins March 4, 2013 Up to 150 participants can be accommodated weekly.
  • CampVandy requires a $50.00 deposit (non-refundable and non-transferable) for each week enrolled. Payments may be made by cash, check or money order only. Credit cards and payroll deduction are not available.
  • The $50.00 deposit will be deducted from the weekly balance.
  • The balance (including fees for early care and after-care services is due on that Monday between 7:00 am and 9:15 am for each week your child is enrolled.
  • Registration fees must be collected for all weeks registered.
  • Registration may be mailed to or returned in person to the Office of Campus
  • Recreation between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
  • Daily enrollment, if available, is $50.00 per day plus other services.

PLEASE NOTE: The Office of Campus Recreation is not responsible for registration forms left at the front desk or under the door.

Early Care / After Care

Due to safety and security concerns and adequate staffing, 24 hours notice is required for Early Care and After Care the week your child is attending camp. There will be a $10 late fee per care fee if not pre-registered and pre-paid in advance.

Swim School Group Lessons

CampVandy Swim School Transfers – CampVandy participants signed up for CampVandy aftercare service can be transferred from CampVandy to the Vanderbilt Swim School for the 4 pm class only.  Parents must purchase CampVandy aftercare services (Add $25 per week or $5 a day) to be able to participate in the CampVandy Swim School transfer program.

Please check the Vanderbilt Swim School Group Lessons spots available for available classes at that time. Registration forms and payments must be received in the VSS Office to book a swim school class. Group lessons registration is conducted on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Arrivals

Upon arrival, children will meet in the gym on court #1 directly inside the North Entrance of the Recreation Center. All children must be accompanied and signed in. Your child CANNOT be signed in before 8:30am unless he/she is enrolled in early care.

Departures

Campers will be dismissed between 3:45 and 4:00pm. After care will be dismissed from the gym on court #1.You must present a photo ID upon arrival of picking up your child. Anyone attempting to pick up their child without an ID will be asked to go get their ID. Camp counselors and OCR staff are not available to walk children to vehicles at any time. Children will not be dismissed from CampVandy without a parental written consent. Please make sure your authorization for pickup is up to date.

What To Bring

During warm summer days, campers enjoy both outdoor and indoor activities. We recommend shorts, t-shirts, non-marking athletic shoes (no sandals), hat, bathing suit, towel, and sunscreen. Please have clothing labeled with your child’s name. CampVandy is not responsible for lost or stolen items including IPods, Toys, clothing, phones, or any other personal items.

Parking

Parking availability for all CampVandy and Other Youth Programs effective March 1, 2012 is as follows: Limited metered parking is located on Children’s Way directly behind the Student Recreation Center. The meters are enforced from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm, Monday – Friday. The Office of Campus Recreation will not be responsible for ticketing and / or towing fees. Thank you for your participation.

Please Note: Due to construction, the sidewalk on the east side of the Vanderbilt Recreation Center has closed. Patrons parking on Children’s Way will access the center by 25th Ave or Natchez Trace.
