Summer 2016

    •  VU-VUMC Division Impact on Student Hires

University departments may continue to hire student employees - business as usual!  VUMC student hiring processes have changed.  If you have questions about the VUMC student hiring please visit: https://hr.mc.vanderbilt.edu/vts/managers.php#student

Federal Work Study (FWS) eligible students will be available for hire at VU and VUMC effective August 14th. Students placed at VUMC with FWS funding will remain on the University UBA pay cycle. More information will be available to interested VUMC departments later in the summer.  Contact  VU Student Employment after the last week of July to request the appropriate FWS Contract and/or verify if your student worker is eligible.

    • Student Employment Division Changes

After 11 years in Student Employment Tracey Jackson, former Student Employment Coordinator, accepted a new position on campus. Lynn Lassiter was recently promoted to Student Employment Coordinator after an extensive interview process. We will be hiring a new Data Coordinator in the near future. Samantha Rogers, Assistant Director in the Office of Student Financial Aid, has assumed the day-to-day management of the division. All inquiries should still be sent to our general email address: studentemployment@vanderbilt.edu. This allows all staff to meet the demands.

    • Payroll Deadlines:

Please visit the University HR payroll calendar: https://hr.vanderbilt.edu/compensation/payroll-calendar.php

    • FWS Availability for 2016-2017:

Federal Work Study students may begin using their funding August 14, 2016.  The cost-share will be 45% FWS and 55% Department.  Departments may begin FWS Contract requests/inquiries any time after the last week of July. Please email Student Employment with the student's full name and VU Commodore ID, if you know it.  Contracts will be sent out to departments (and student's copied) beginning the first week of August.

    • Terminating Students for Summer Break:

While we understand your student may be returning in August 2016 University HR would like you to "terminate" the active position effective the day after your student has completed working in your department.

Terminations may be done via ePAC or PAF Turnaround and sent to Student Employment for processing. This termination procedure should be adhered to all year.

    • Department Training:

If you are a new administrator responsible for hiring students, you may set up a one-on-one appointment with Student Employment staff by emailing us a few dates/times available for you to visit our office.
