Why Megan is a Student-Athlete of the Month . . .
Megan truly represents what it means to be a student-athlete both on the field and in the classroom. Academically Megan has made the SEC Academic Honor Roll three times and has consistently been named to the Dean’s list ever since her arrival on campus. She was also named to the IWLCA 2009 Academic Squad. Athletically, Megan is one of eight players to start all 17 games last year, and forced three turnovers against Northwestern in the ALC Tournament. I wish Megan all the best in her future endeavors. --Eugene Henderson
Alex Zotov - Men's Tennis
Junior, Major: Engineering Science
Why did you choose to attend Vanderbilt?
I chose to attend Vanderbilt because it is one of the best undergraduate schools academically, and being in the SEC makes it even more challenging because you have to compete against the best teams in the nation.
What are your career goals?
My goals are to get a Ph.D. in Neuroscience and eventually conduct research and be a professor at a prestigious school. If it does not work out, I have a lot of good entrepreneurial ideas that could be very profitable.
What does it take to be academically successful at Vanderbilt?
It takes a lot of time and effort to be successful academically at Vanderbilt. I used to stay up all night before tests, but then I realized it is much better to manage time properly and study a little bit every single day.
How do you manage your demanding schedule?
I am very glad the Vanderbilt Athletics Department gives us planners every year before school starts. It helps a lot to stay on top of things and plan ahead with your schedule.
What is your ritual before taking a test?
Starbucks is my main ritual before a test. Another ritual I took from my former teammate Nick Cromydas is to eat an omelet at Rand before I take a test.
What is your favorite quote?
"Success has a thousand fathers; failure is an orphan." -John F. Kennedy
Why Alex is a Student-Athlete of the Month . . .
Alexandr has made significant academic and athletic improvements. In the classroom, his hard work and dedication have helped him earn a spot on the SEC Academic Honor Roll over the past two years. On the court, as the spring tennis season gets started, Alex has been undefeated in dual match play, and is playing in the number one position in doubles. I am confident he will continue to shine at Vanderbilt and I look forward to watching him grow as both a student and athlete. --Christy Hogan
