Student-Athletes of the Month

*The Student-Athletes of the Month are selected on the basis of the all-around student-athlete...effort and excellence in academics, leadership, integrity, dedication to team, campus involvement, community service, and the ability to serve as a role model for current and future VU students and student-athletes.

Cody Crowell - Baseball

Junior, Major: Human and Organizational Development

Photo of Cody CrowellWhy did you choose to attend Vanderbilt?

I chose to attend Vanderbilt because it is a top university both athletically and academically.

What are your career goals?

In addition to playing professional baseball, I would like to own my own business.

What does it take to be academically successful at Vanderbilt?

Time management is the key to academic success.  The academic work is difficult, but if spaced out correctly, it can be accepted.

How do you manage your demanding schedule?

Each day I have a specific schedule and goals.  I view each day as just another day to get better athletically and academically.

What is your ritual before taking a test?

I stay relaxed and stick with my first inclination.

What is your favorite quote?

"Success is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm."  --Michael Jordan

Why Garnetta is a Student-Athlete of the Month . . .

Garnetta is a very valuable member of the Vanderbilt Track & Field team.  She is a multi-talented athlete who is having a very good season.  She has battled through some injuries over the past two years which has limited her ability to compete but she is now at 100%.  She has really asserted herself in the classroom and has done well.  She has worked hard at developing productive study habits and has really excelled in time management and her grades have reflected that.  She has proven to be a true achiever in the classroom and on the track and that is why I feel that she is worthy of being the Student-Athlete of the Month--Max Martin
