Molly Kinsella - Women's Soccer
Sophomore, Major: Undeclared
Why did you choose to attend Vanderbilt?
I wanted to play soccer in a good conference like the SEC, but wanted to be challenged academically.
What are your career goals?
After graduating, I hope to attend pharmacy school at University of Tennessee at Memphis and work as a clinical pharmacist in a hospital.
What does it take to be academically successful at Vanderbilt?
A lot of hard work and studying. No procrastination!
How do you manage your demanding schedule?
I am able to make the best of my free time. Even if I only have half an hour, I try to make use of that time. With soccer and school there is not much of that.
What is your ritual before taking a test?
I try to study a little bit every night for a couple of nights because I am so bad at cramming and staying up late. Also, no matter how prepared I feel, I always stop studying about 45 minutes before the test and just relax.
What is your favorite quote?
"The impossible can always be broken down into possibilities." --Author Unknown
Why Molly is a Student-Athlete of the Month . . .
Molly had an outstanding freshman year academically and made all A’s in the spring semester while taking a difficult pre-pharmacy course load. She also excelled on the field by leading the team in goals scored and being named to the Freshmen All-SEC team. I look forward to watching Molly grow into a leadership role on the team and continue to strive to reach her goals on and off the field. --Sterling Frierson
Darlron Spead - Football
Senior, Major: Human and Organizational Development, Minor: Sociology
Why did you choose to attend Vanderbilt?
Vanderbilt provides me with the opportunity to strive for excellence on and off the field. I have the opportunity to graduate from a top 20 university and play football in the best conference in the country, the Southeastern Conference.
What are your career goals?
First I would like to see how far football will take me. If I can not pursue a career in football I would like to work in the Human Resource field and eventually end up as a Vice President of Human Resource.
What does it take to be academically successful at Vanderbilt?
You have to be mentally and physically prepared for Vanderbilt. It takes hard work!
How do you manage your demanding schedule?
Playing football helps you manage your demanding schedule. You have to be asleep a certain time to wake up and eat breakfast. For me, I fall asleep every night before 10:30 pm and wake up at 7:30 am for breakfast. After breakfast I go into the library and do work until my first class. Then between classes I go back into the library to finish the work.
What is your ritual before taking a test?
I study an hour the night before the test. Then get a good night of rest and wake up and eat a big breakfast. I go in the library and study up until twenty minutes before the test.
What is your favorite quote?
“Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will acknowledge him before My Father in heaven. But whoever disowns Me before men, I will disown him before My Father in heaven.” Matthew 10:32
Why Darlron is a Student-Athlete of the Month . . .
With over a 3.0 for the past two semesters, Darlron is on track to achieve SEC Academic Honor Roll this fall. His academic improvement has been inspiring to many, and has resulted from his intelligence, drive, focus, and work ethic. His passion and intensity on the football field are infectious to teammates and fans alike. It has been a great pleasure for me to get to know Darlron over the past three years, and I look forward to keeping up with his many successes before and after his graduation from VU. God speed. --Elizabeth Wright
