Why did you choose to attend Vanderbilt?
Vanderbilt offered me the best of both worlds in terms of athletics and academics. I fell in love with the atmosphere and area as soon as I stepped foot onto campus and it was no turning back.

What are your career goals?
I plan to work in Sports Marketing and/or Management after completing my Graduate degree through Vanderbilt’s Peabody College.

What does it take to be academically successful at Vanderbilt?
Determination and a “never give up” attitude when classes and times are tough. On top of that, time management is essential as a student-athlete who strives to
excel in both the classroom and athletics.

How do you manage your demanding schedule?
Again, like I mentioned previously, time management skills have been my savior when it comes to managing my schedule. I keep an agenda filled out with all of my upcoming assignments, meetings, activities, and anything else I happen to add to the list. By blocking out my days and weeks using an agenda, I’m able to stay on top of all the things required of me for academics, my sport, and life in
general.

What is your ritual before taking a test?
I like to start studying about a week in advance if possible and if not, then at least three days before. If I start a week ahead, the first couple of days I only focus on small segments of material and study casually (only when I’m feeling motivated and focused). Three days prior, I will study hard for two days to retain as much information as possible, then the day before only review. The day before I like to make it an easy day just to build confidence and show that I actually know the materials, then I will take my mind completely off of the test by watching a movie or doing something relaxing. Good night’s rest, good breakfast/meal before hand, then test time!

What is your favorite quote?
“People might not get all they work for in this world,
but they must certainly work for all they get.” Frederick Douglass

Why did you choose to attend Vanderbilt?
I chose Vanderbilt because I loved the combination of the athletics, academics, and the staff of this program.

What are your career goals?
My career goal is to play in Major League Baseball for as long as possible.

What does it take to be academically successful at Vanderbilt?
To be successful at Vanderbilt, you have to have great discipline and time management skills or else you will get overwhelmed by the combination of school, work, and your sport.

How do you manage your demanding schedule?
I learned to manage my schedule during my first baseball season. It happened because I no longer could do my work when I wanted to. I only had a certain time frame where I had to get it done or else I would have failed.

What is your ritual before taking a test?
I study a few days before but mostly the night before because I feel like that helps me remember it better. I also make sure that I get a good night sleep so I am not tired for the test.

What is your favorite quote?
“I’m a success today because I had a friend who believed in me and I didn’t have the heart to let him down.” – Abraham

Why did you choose to attend Vanderbilt?
I chose Vanderbilt because I believe it contained the best of both worlds. Vanderbilt is a school that provides a world class, world-ranked education, and a well known, nationally recognized basketball program. At a lot of schools, you have to decide which is more important to you. At Vanderbilt, I did not have to choose, I got both.

What are your career goals?
I hope to work in sports doing player development, or public relations.

What does it take to be academically successful at Vanderbilt?
It takes dedication. Vanderbilt is challenging and one cannot give up. It also takes hard work. There are no easy classes here. You have to study for everything, and put in the effort. You can not come into Vanderbilt thinking this will be easy.

How do you manage your demanding schedule?
Time management. I had to learn how long assignments would usually take, based on past experiences, and organize my time accordingly to that. I take complete advantage of a calendar. everything is written down in advance, so I know everything I have to complete. This is how I am able to balance class, school, and homework.

What is your ritual before taking a test?
I review before the class begins, take a deep breath, and tell myself “you got this.”

Why did you choose to attend Vanderbilt?
Vanderbilt had everything I wanted for my college experience. For lacrosse, Vanderbilt has a strong program with great coaches and close team, which are all really important to me. Academically, I knew I wanted to be a teacher, and for that there is no better place to be than Vanderbilt’s Peabody school of education. I also loved the atmosphere around campus and being in Nashville, it’s a fun place to be!

What are your career goals?
Next year I am going to graduate school to get my Masters degree and ELL certification. After that, I hope to be a teacher in the early elementary grades. One day I would love to start a Reggio Emilia based preschool.

What does it take to be academically successful at Vanderbilt?
Time management is so important, especially with a student-athlete’s schedule. I’ve found that planning ahead and giving myself enough time to get the work done is key.

How do you manage your demanding schedule?
I try to take advantage of the small periods of time throughout the day, like a free hour before practice, or waking up a little bit earlier to get some work done. I also try to focus solely on the task at hand. If I’m at practice, I am only thinking about lacrosse. If I’m doing homework, I try to minimize distractions and get my work done efficiently.

What is your ritual before taking a test?
I usually make a study guide a few days in advance, and then spend a day or two going over it. Before I go to bed the night before the test I’ll spend fifteen minutes going over the most important information, because that’s what you remember the most the next day. I also try to get a good night sleep!

What is your favorite quote?

Why did you choose to attend Vanderbilt?
I’m originally from Michigan and wanted to experience the Southern culture, and escape the nasty norhtern winters. Vanderbilt’s academic reputation made this school my first choice.

What are your career goals?
I plan to earn a dual degree in nursing and public health. I want to make a difference in less privileged communities by helping to deveop and implement programs that address population health disparities. Ultimately I hope to dramatically reduce chronic illnesses that affect lower income communities at higher rates including but not limited to obesity, cancer, and diabetes.

What does it take to be academically successful at Vanderbilt?
Time management is critical for academic success. Practice and travel consume a lot of time, so you also have to be willing to sacrifice the social life most other students get to experience.

How do you manage your demanding schedule?
I do my best to get ahead during my “easier” weeks. I also attempt to get at least 5-6 hours of sleep each night so I do not become so fatigued by the end of the week that I have become inefficient and don’t get much done.

What is your ritual before taking a test?
I begin by looking over my notes 4-5 days before, and then go over them in detail a day or two before the exam. I always make sure I eat a good meal and drink a cup of coffee the hour before I go to the class.

What is your favorite quote?
“I don’t believe you have to be better than everyone else. I believe you have to be better than you ever thought you could be.”-Ken Venturi

Why did you choose to attend Vanderbilt?
Because I was looking for a school with great academics, a solid tennis team, based in a medium sized city with good weather and Vanderbilt had it all.

What are your career goals?
Designing buildings and highways to shorten distances in Ecuador and make sure people have save shelter to live in. Work in a company with my cousins doing this.

What does it take to be academically successful at Vanderbilt?
Putting in the work! There is really no secret: go to class, do your homework, read the textbook, study and learn what works best for you to be sucessful in tests and other assignments.

How do you manage your demanding schedule?
I plan what I have to do ahead of time and try to give my full attention to the task I am doing at the moment.

What is your ritual before taking a test?

Why did you choose to attend Vanderbilt?
I chose Vanderbilt University for a multitude of reasons. First it was the best combination of academics and athletics. Second, the coaching staff at Vanderbilt is the best in the country and I knew they could further my goals of playing at the next level. Lastly, Vanderbilt is 20 minutes from my house and it was important to me that I stayed close to my family.

What are your career goals?
In tennis my career goals are to play professionally and make it into the top 50
in the world; academically my goals are to be the best student that I can
possibly be.

What does it take to be academically successful at Vanderbilt?
Discipline and time management. I think that without these two skills, life would be really difficult.

How do you manage your demanding schedule?
I just try my best to live in the present and not think too much about the past or future events so that I can keep a clear head about things. With a clear mind it makes it much easier to manage the pressures and demands of an institution like Vanderbilt.

What is your ritual before taking a test?
A good night sleep, great breakfast, a little last minute studying and then go for it.

What is your favorite quote?
“Where are you? Here. What time is it? Now. What are you? This moment.”
-Dan Millman

Why did you choose to attend Vanderbilt?
The reason I chose Vanderbilt was the chance to get a great education and play in the best conference in college football.

What are your career goals?
After graduation I plan to become a teacher and help improve the education system.

What does it take to be academically successful at Vanderbilt?
To be successful at Vanderbilt, it takes a great work ethic, a positive attitude, compete in everything you do, and you must be willing to sacrifice.

How do you manage your demanding schedule?
At Vanderbilt we have the best academic support in the country. I have class every morning Monday-Friday; after class I go straight to practice, and after practice I go to study hall.

What is your ritual before taking a test?
I study as much as possible the night before. Wake up the next morning, eat breakfast, and study some more.

What is your favorite quote?
“Give of yourself completely, ask for nothing in return, and success shall be yours.”
