Why Jennifer is a Student-Athlete of the Month . . .
Jen's academic accomplishments are many. She has regularly made the Vanderbilt Dean’s List and was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll in 2008-2009. As a Medicine, Health, and Society major, her cumulative GPA ranks among the highest on the team. Jen’s academic experience here at Vanderbilt will certainly assist in fulfilling her career goal as a physical therapist. In the pool, Jen has proven to be an extremely important member of the team. She is a leader and has successfully modeled the duties and responsibilities of what it means to swim for Vanderbilt for the underclassmen. Jen is an accomplished sprinter and holds the Vanderbilt school record in the 100m freestyle. This award is just one of many that should come Jen’s way during her undergraduate years. --Nate Bell
Jordan Wormsley - Baseball
Senior, Major: Human and Organizational Development
Why did you choose to attend Vanderbilt?
I chose Vanderbilt because of the combination of academics and athletics. I had the opportunity to attend both a top ten baseball program and a top ten university. I felt this combination could prepare me for anything life had to offer.
What are your career goals?
After graduation, I am looking into attending graduate school here at Vanderbilt or seeing what job opportunities I have. I feel like no matter what I end up doing professionally, I will still be very attached to sports. Because of that, I would love an opportunity to be in the front office of a sports organization, or maybe even coaching. There is a lot I want to do.
What does it take to be academically successful at Vanderbilt?
Organization and time management are crucial to be successful here.
There are weeks where there is no work, and then there are weeks with piles of work. If you can plan ahead and are prepared for these tough weeks, it makes life here much more manageable. If you stay on top of your work you will be successful. The teachers do a great job of helping out their students.
How do you manage your demanding schedule?
Managing the schedule of a student-athlete is pretty difficult. There is not a whole lot of down time, and you are always at the field or doing homework. For me, this busy schedule forces me to stay on top of my schedule both academically and athletically. I think that the schedule that we face ends up being a good thing. It is difficult, but once you fall into a routine it becomes manageable and keeps you focused.
What is your ritual before taking a test?
Before taking a test, I like to relax as I study and prepare. I usually grab something to eat and then go to my room to study. I study over all my materials, and then I go to bed as early as possible (sometimes it's not early enough). The next morning I always get up at least an hour or even two hours before the test. I study my materials again, have a good breakfast, and do the best I can.

Why Jordan is a Student-Athlete of the Month . . .
Jordan has been a model student-athlete over the past four years. He has worked hard in the classroom, earning SEC Academic Honor Roll status the past two years, earned the position of a quiet leader on the baseball field, and has become a model citizen within the Vanderbilt community. Jordan is very polite, caring, kind, has a terrific work ethic, and makes great choices. He is wise beyond his years and has an amazing future ahead of him. I have truly enjoyed working with Jordan and am excited to see his successful future in whichever field he chooses. Once Jordan has exhausted his time at Vanderbilt, I will truly miss his positive personality. --Katie Feyes
