Hamilton Holliday - Football

Junior, Major: Engineering Science

Photo of Hamilton HollidayWhy did you choose to attend Vanderbilt?

I simply came to Vanderbilt for the SEC football and world class education combination. Nobody else could offer that.

What are your career goals?

For career goals, I would like to be successful in law, politics, or business. I also plan to retire early.

What does it take to be academically successful at Vanderbilt?

It takes great discipline, motivation, and dedication to succeed at Vanderbilt.

How do you manage your demanding schedule?

I manage my busy schedule by keeping a strict agenda and keeping very organized.

What is your ritual before taking a test?

Before a test, I never cram at the last minute. I always get to class 10 minutes early, clear my head, and relax.

What is your favorite quote?

"There is a lot of blood, sweat, and guts between dreams and success."  --Bear Bryant

Why Hamilton is a Student-Athlete of the Month . . .

Hamilton has excelled in the classroom and on the playing field since his freshman year when he made the SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll and the Freshman All-SEC team. He majors in one of our toughest disciplines and he plays one of the most important positions on the field. His focus and demeanor have helped him succeed and he is a role model for his peers. I look for Hamilton to continue to achieve success in all of his future endeavors.  --Sterling Frierson

Photo of Susan McAleaveyWhy did you choose to attend Vanderbilt?

The balance of strong academics and SEC competition.

What are your career goals?

To graduate with a double major in HOD and Spanish and attend law school; ultimately to practice corporate law.

What does it take to be academically successful at Vanderbilt?

Dedication and perseverence.  It's also always easiest when I am interested in the subject.  I also find that I perform better in school when I balance studying with having fun.  The key is not to get burnt out.

How do you manage your demanding schedule?

Time management.  I also find it helps to watch certain TV shows.  Knowing that I want to watch a certain show at a specific time motivates me to complete my work.

What is your favorite quote?

"I'll knock ya block off."

Why Susan is a Student-Athlete of the Month . . .

Susan has been on the Dean's List since she stepped foot on Vanderbilt's campus. She has been called a "point guard" on the soccer field for the manner in which she makes the team run smoothly. Her calm personality and precise passing was evident during her play in Europe earlier this summer. I look for Susan to have a great senior year and an even more successful career in law.  --Sterling Frierson
