Routine CareIn addition to providing general medical care for the acutely ill or injured patient, the following services are also available on-site at VUSHC:
Chronic disease management is available to our students who have ongoing health needs while enrolled at Vanderbilt University. We are able to take care of a wide variety of health care problems, including asthma, hypertension, high cholesterol, and thyroid disease, among others. An Internal Medicine specialist is on staff at VUSHC to manage the older adult students and those with chronic health care needs. Gynecology exams are available at VUSHC. In general, routine yearly exams must be scheduled several weeks in advance. Birth control pills, emergency contraception, family planning, STD testing, and evaluation of abnormal Pap smears are some of the gynecologic services available at VUSHC. Our Sports Medicine specialists are experts in diagnosing and treating sports-related injuries and problems. Dermatology clinic is available by appointment one half day per week at VUSHC. Before making an appointment with the Dermatology specialist, you must first be evaluated and referred by one of our physicians or nurse practitioners. Nutrition counseling is available at VUSHC for patients with a variety of needs. Our registered dietician works closely with our physicians and mental health experts in the management of patients with eating disorders. In addition, our dietician is available for general nutrition advice and for those patients who have high cholesterol or need to lose weight. Before making an appointment with the registered dietician, you must first be evaluated and referred by one of our physicians or nurse practitioners. International travel and immunization consults are available by appointment. The appointment should be scheduled at least one month before departure to allow any required immunizations time to become effective. Allergy shots are given at VUSHC from 9:00-11:15 a.m. and from 1:30-3:45 p.m. We do not do allergy testing or mix the contents of vials, but a nurse is available for injections that have been ordered by your allergist. Vials are stored at VUSHC and shots are given at scheduled appointment times. There is a two-dollar fee per injection. For more information, call 343-3037 or 343-3036.
