Costs Outside Insurance

There is no charge or copayment for seeing the health care providers at the VU Student Health Center including counselors, nurse practitioners and physicians. However, lab tests performed at the SHC are provided at minimal charge. Other lab tests are performed by outside laboratories and fees must be paid for these tests. Payment for outside lab tests without insurance billing may be made at the time of checkout via cash/check, Vanderbilt Debit Card, or charged to the student's account. Students can also choose to have outside lab tests billed directly to the student's insurance company by the laboratory that performs the test.

Medications from the dispensary and supplies (items such as crutches or slings) can be paid for with cash/check, Vanderbilt Debit Card, or the student's account. The VUSHC does not bill insurance companies directly.

Procedures or tests done outside of VUSHC (such as X-rays done at the Vanderbilt Clinic) will be billed directly to the student's insurance company, and are ultimately the patient's responsibility.
