Ancillary ServicesLab Services: The lab at VUSHC is equipped to perform multiple common lab tests at no charge to the patient. In most cases, results will be available at the time of your visit. Commonly ordered tests available at minimal charge include pregnancy testing, rapid Strep testing, Monospot, and urinalysis. Other blood tests and Pap smears are sent to outside laboratories, and are not free of charge. These tests can be paid for at the time of checkout, or can be billed directly to the student's insurance by the laboratory performing the test. Student Health does not bill insurance companies. For example, if you have a lab test done outside of Student Health at the Vanderbilt lab, then the Vanderbilt lab will bill your insurance and then bill you for the balance if necessary. Arrangements for receiving your lab results will be made with your provider at the time that the test is done. Some tests may require that you schedule a follow-up appointment to receive results. Dispensary: VUSHC stocks a number of commonly used medications that our providers prescribe. We buy these items in bulk at significant savings in many cases, and are able to pass these savings on to our patients. However, if you have an insurance policy that allows even greater savings at a local pharmacy, you should ask your provider to write a prescription that can be filled at a pharmacy, rather than purchasing the medicine at VUSHC. Our dispensary is NOT a pharmacy and cannot be used to fill prescriptions that have been written by providers outside of the VUSHC.
