Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Fellows
With support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Department of Sociology at Vanderbilt University will recruit new Ph.D. students whose research interests include health and health policy. The students will earn a doctorate from Vanderbilt's Department of Sociology, be trained with a concentration in health and health policy, and participate in the Robert Wood Johnson Meharry-Vanderbilt Center for Health Policy. At the core of the Center's mission is the education of a new generation of leaders in health and health policy studies, leaders whose diversity reflects the full diversity of the U.S. population. As such, the Center represents a collaborative effort between Meharry Medical College and Vanderbilt's Department of Sociology. Meharry Medical College is the nation's oldest historically black medical school. Vanderbilt's Department of Sociology offers a vibrant and flexible Ph.D. program with 22 full-time faculty members and 30 students.
The new RWJF-funded Ph.D. students will receive a generous funding package which includes a stipend, a full-tuition waiver, and health insurance. Students will complete the requirements for a Ph.D. in Vanderbilt's Department of Sociology as well as participate in seminars and other research activities at Meharry Medical College.
The deadline for applications for admission in fall of any given year is January 15 of that same year. All application materials should be submitted online at: http://www.vanderbilt.edu/gradschool/applications_and_information/index.php.
