Herbert J. Walberg, a distinguished visiting fellow at the Hoover Institution and a member of the Koret Task Force on K–12 Education, is a University Scholar at the University of Illinois at Chicago. His research focuses on educational productivity and human accomplishments. Dr. Walberg has written or edited more than sixty books, including Charter School Outcomes (2008) with Professors Mark Berends and Matthew G. Springer, and Handbook of Research on School Choice (in press) with Professors Berends, Springer, and Dale Ballou. He has also written approximately 350 articles on such topics as the causes and effects of learning, teaching and instructional effectiveness, national comparisons of achievement, and educational measurement and evaluation. His articles have appeared in widely circulated journals, including Daedalus and Educational Leadership, and in such newspapers as the Chicago Tribune and the Washington Post.

  The NCSC is funded by a 5 year, $13.3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education's Institute of Education Sciences. Its lead institution is Vanderbilt University in   Nashville, Tennessee. The center is housed on the campus of Peabody College, one of the nation's top graduate schools of education.
