Dale Ballou is associate professor of public policy and education in the Department of Leadership, Policy, and Organizations at Vanderbilt University and associate director of the National Center on School Choice. As an economist, Professor Ballou’s research has focused on policies affecting education reform, particularly the role of incentives and regulation in the training, recruitment, and retention of teachers. Recent projects deal with personnel policies in charter schools, teacher testing, and the role of unions in education reform. Professor Ballou’s work has appeared in professional economics journals and publications for a broader audience such as The Public Interest and Education Week. Most recently he has served as co-editor with Professors Mark Berends, Matthew G. Springer and Herbert J.
