Henry M. Levin

Henry M. Levin is a professor of economics and education at Teachers College, Columbia University and Director of the National Center for the Study of Privatization in Education, a nonpartisan entity. He is also a professor emeritus of higher education and economics at Stanford University, where he taught from 1968-99 after working as an economist at the Brookings Institution.

He is a specialist in the economics of education and human resources and has published 20 books and about 300 articles on these and related subjects. His most recent books are Privatizing Educational Choice and The Price We Pay. In 1991 the New York Times named him one of nine national leaders for "Innovation in Education". From 1986-2000 Levin served as the founding Director of the Accelerated Schools Project, a national school reform initiative for accelerating the education of at-risk youngsters. He holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing and economics from New York University and master’s and doctoral degrees in economics from Rutgers University.

Rather it exercises national leadership in coordinating multiple disciplines, research methodologies, and substantive issues associated with the design, implementation, and effects of school choice.
