Copper Enamel Jewelry *New Course
Instructor: Susan Moody
Create colorful designs on copper and learn basic jewelry techniques to create unique wearable art. Or use metal to create functional and decorative works for your home. A $25 lab fee covers basic materials for the class projects. Additional supplies may purchased from the studios.

Digital Photography *New Course
Instructor: Mandy Sue Springer
We're very excited about offering this class. In this class, sudents will learn the techniques of taking good pictures with a camera, explore some of the uses of Photoshop, and how to use the printer to create unique phots, collages and more. You'll need your own digital camera and a lap top computer for this course. If you have Photoshop, you're ready to go! if not you may purchase a copy for an additional fee from Sarratt Art Studios.
A lab fee of $25.00 covers paper, ink and use of printers.

Fused Glass
Instructor: Nancie Roark
Students will explore the principles of fusing and slumping glass. Operating and timing the glass kilns is also a key element to this class. Fused glass can be used to make jewelry, decorative tiles and functional or sculptural objects. A lab fee of $25 covers basic supplies. This is a very popular class with lots of great ideas for designs in glass. We recommend that you register early to guarrantee a place in the class. please note that this class meets at University School of Nashville. *Please note, this class will begin on monday February 4, 2008.

Pottery: Intermediate/Advanced Wheel Throwing
Instructor: Rob McClurg
A great class for those who have had at least a beginning level wheel throwing class. Students will expand their skills for throwing on the wheel, trimming, and glazing. Learn to develop your own throwing styles, explore the construction of traditional forms, and learn more glazing and surface design strategies. Lots of new tricks and techniques as well as individual attention to help you explore your passion for clay. A $25 lab fee covers the cost of clay and glazes.
Knitting 101
Instructor: Charisse Baer
Three amazing projects for students in this class which is open to beginners and to knitters of all levels. Students will knit a scarf, a pair of mittens, and a sweater. Experienced knitters can design their own projects or take on one of Charisse's advanced projects. Professional instruction from one of Nashville's favorite knitting instructors will assist you as you knit your way to beautiful creations. Knitting needles and yarn are provided for the scarf project from the $25 lab fee. A selection of yarns and circular needles will be available for purchase for the mittens and sweater projects.

Mixed Media Painting
Instructor: Pam Francis
Explore painting in a new and creative way by learning to use a variety of materials and painting techniques. A variety of papers, stamps, texture tools, and paints allow you to create your own original work of art on paper. This class is open to beginners and to those with previous painting experience. Pam has a very structured approach to teaching painting but allows plenty of space for students to pursue and explore their own interests and ideas.This class has a $25 lab fee plus students may need to purchase additional paper.

Pottery on the Wheel: Beginning
Instructors: Rob McClurg or Rosemary Swain
The class you have always wanted to take is one of our most popular that we offer here at Sarratt Art Studios. This beginning level class teaches the basics of wheel throwing, trimming, and glazing functional pottery. Instructors will provide you with step-by-step instructions and demonstrations to help you create delightful clay objects from the wheel. This popular class will fill quickly, so we recommend that you register as soon as possible.. A $25 lab fee covers the cost of clay and glazes.

Jewelry Basics - Cold Metal Techniques
Instructor: Nancie Roark
This journey into jewelry making includes an introduction to tools and materials with an emphasis on a variety of techniques. In this hands-on class, students work with sheet metal, wire and beads as well as with found objects. Techniques include sawing, piercing, texturing, metalforming, cold-connection fabrication, beading and wire-working. A lab fee of $25 covers basic supplies; experienced students that work with silver will need to make their own purchases through Sarratt Art Studios.

Basic Camera
Instructor: Abi Browning This is an introductory course designed to teach students about the camera and the art of photography. You will learn to operate your manual or automatic camera, process black and white film, and print our own photographs. A 35mm camera is required to take this course. A $25 lab fee covers unlimited use of the darkroom and chemicals and a roll of b/w film. Photo paper, film and protective sheets are available for purchase.

Drawing Fundamentals
Instructor: Susan Moody
This is drawing basics for beginners and for those that feel they need a "refresher" course. Each week students will explore different drawing materials, learn the vocabulary of drawing and have time to practice new drawing skills. From still lifes to drawing portraits, you're sure to unleash the inner artist. Paper and drawing supplies are provided for the course.

Jewelry II - Working with Heat *New Course
Instructor: Nancie Roark
A new jewelry class open to students of all levels. This course will start with some of the basics in cutting and shaping metal and then move to the use of torches to explore soldering, annealing, photo resist acid etching and more. Students explore the techniques with copper, brass, nickel silver and silver. Each week will allow students the opportunity to learn "hot" techniques as well as design their own jewelry. A $25.00 lab fee will cover the projects presented by the instructor. Additional metals may be purchased from Sarratt Art Studios.

Figure Drawing
Instructor: Susan Moody
Artists have been drawing, painting and scultping the human figure for centuries. Now, it's your turn to explore drawing with a live model as your muse. From quick gesture drawings to more "studied" poses, students will explore anatomy, expression and physicality of the human form on paper. Paper and drawing supplies are provided for the course.Our model will wear a swim suit or dance leotard for poses. This class is open to intermediate or advanced level drawing students

Clay Handbuilding Techniques
Instructor: Rosemary Swain
Use the basic techniques that have been around for centuries to discover your own way to make objects in clay. A variety of functional objects to one of a kind sculptures may be created in our studio. Equipment includes a variety of hand tools, slab roller, extruder, and a selection of cone 6 glazes for exploring how to work with clay. Open to all levels.

Int/Adv Watercolor
Instructor: Pam Francis
Gain new skills while building on the basics of watercolor techniques. Students in this class work on a more complicated composition and explore new ways to create beautiful paintings. Students in this class continue to explore and learn to "control" this very tricky and beautiful medium under the expertise of a very accomplished artist and instructor.A lab fee of $25 covers basic supplies. Beginning Darkroom
Instructor: Buffy Holton
Explore the techniques of the dark room as you learn new skills in printing your own black and white photography. This class is designed for students who have a fundamental knowledge of camera operation. A $25 lab fee covers unlimited use of the darkroom and chemicals and a roll of film. Students must provide their own 35 mm camera.

Holga Cameras and Alternative Photo Techniques * New Course
Instructor: Brittany Connor
Holga cameras are often nicknamed "toy cameras" as they are not as light tight as a regular camera and each camera provides the artist with its own uniques special effects. Holga cameras also use a different size film from regular cameras. Alternative photo techniques, like cyanotype, are non camera techniques that you can expose images on to hand made paper, fabric, or anything that will hold the emulsion. Once you've created a "negative" you expose it all to light to print your image. A $25.00 lab fee covers the cost of the Holga camera and chemistry for alternative processes.
Film will be available for purchase in the studio. Class size is limited to 10 students.
Drawing with Pastels
Instructor: Cynthia Crook
For beginners and anyone with a passion for drawing and color. Students will learn how to use this delicate medium to create wonderfully colorful works of art. Compositions from still life, portraits and even drawing outdoors are some of the ways students enjoy making beautiful work with pastels.

Book Arts
Instructor: Emily Holt
You might never have thought it, but yes making a book is an art form. And in this course you learn a new technique or style of making a book just about every week. Handmade books can be used in a variety of ways and/or can just be enjoyed as a wonderful work of art. A great class for anyone wanting to learn something out of the ordinary and a perfect format for drawings and prints. Some books may even be scultpural. Please note that this class meets at University School of Nashville.

Beautiful Silk Scarves
Instructor: Paula Bowers Hotvedt
This course is designed for textile enthusiasts, fashion trend setters, and for those that want to learn a variety of techniques to design their own wearable art. Starting with sampling different techniques that include hand printing, resist dying, color removal (discharge) and other ways to manipulate cloth, students in this class will create original designs on silk. Wear your art with your favorite outfit or to make a great impression.
Gentle Yoga
Instructor: Shana Hornstein
Yoga has become very popular in the United States and many people are finding the array of benefits that can be gained in their daily lives through this practice. As artists, we are often working for long hours of time each work week and yoga helps to relief the stress of our efforts. But no matter what your career or daily life is like, you'll find that yoga helps eliminate stress, improves your posture, helps build good core strength, the benefits are endless. This class is designed for beginners, but is open to anyone who has some yoga experience as well. This class will focus on yoga asanas (postures) and breathing techniques to help reduce stress. *Students must bring their own yoga mats to class. These are available at Target, Walmart or on line.
Yin Yoga
Instructor: David Heustess
Many styles of yoga classes (Power Yoga, Ashtanga, Vinyasa Flow are examples) are high energy, very aerobic and work and stretch the muscles in the body. These styles have a "yang" energy to them that provide numerous benefits.
Yin yoga classes focus on stretching the connective tissues and ligaments by allowing more time to "sit" in each pose and allowing these areas a chance to relax and stretch. Yin yoga classes are more relaxing and restorative and many of the poses are seated or reclining. Yin yoga is also helpful in preparing the body to sit quietly for meditation. *Students must bring their own yoga mats to class. These are available at Target, Walmart or on line.
