About the FacilityThe Sarratt Student Center was built in 1974 and named after Vanderbilt's popular mathematics professor Madison Sarratt. Sarratt is at the heart of Vanderbilt's campus, but is more than just a location. Its staff of students and professionals and program committees offer programs, special events and services for all Vanderbilt students, faculty and staff, as well as the Nashville community. Within the building are the Sarratt Gallery, Sarratt Cinema, the Overcup Oak Restaurant, art studios, darkrooms, a variety of meeting rooms and study spaces, the Office of the Dean of Students, Student Campus events office, Greek Life, the Vanderbilt Card Office and Vanderbilt Student Communications, including the student newspaper The Hustler and WRVU, the campus radio station. The East and West wings are home to offices of 50 student organizations and Sarratt ties in directly to Rand Dining Hall and the Varsity Market. Vanderbilt students gain valuable leadership skills and hands-on pre-professional experience through participation on volunteer committees that plan and produce the Center's programs as well as through Sarratt employment opportunities. |
