The Russian Program is part of the Department of Germanic and Slavic Languages. The Chair of the department is Barbara Hahn. Director of Undergraduate Studies in Russian is Konstantin Kustanovich. Other faculty members in the Russian Program are Sasha Spektor, Mellon Assistant Professor, and David Johnson, McTyeire Coordinator and Language Instructor.

The Russian program has a special commitment to undergraduate training in all aspects of Russian culture and language. In addition to courses in literature and culture, Russian faculty devotes special attention to developing courses in Russian cinema. Vanderbilt has accumulated an extensive collection of Russian films which can be checked out from the Central Library and the Language Center. Students have the opportunity to spend a semester, a summer, or a Maymester in Russia. The Russian Hall at McTyeire International House provides a relaxed environment for speaking Russian outside a formal class setting. Opportunities for Russian studies in other departments are provided through courses in History, Political Science, European Studies, and Fine Arts. Many students find it beneficial to combine a Russian major with a second concentration in a related field, science, or law.
