Statement of Purpose
Established under the sponsorship of
the College of Arts and Science in
1987 and renamed the Robert Penn
Warren Center for the Humanities in
1989 in honor of Robert Penn Warren,
Vanderbilt alumnus class of 1925, the
Center promotes interdisciplinary
research and study in the humanities,
social sciences, and, when appropriate,
natural sciences. Members of the
Vanderbilt community representing a
wide variety of specializations take part
in the Warren Center’s programs,
which are designed to intensify and
increase interdisciplinary discussion of
academic, social, and cultural issues.
