In academic year 2009, faculty across all disciplines received over $521 million in external funding for research. Vanderbilt is also one of only 10 universities ranked in the top 20 on each of two key indicators: US News & World Report's "Best Universities and Colleges" (ranked 18) and federal obligations for science and engineering research and development (ranked 20).
