The Vanderbilt Interfaith Council is a student organization representing various faith traditions. Our purpose is to promote campus-wide understanding and respect of diverse spiritual beliefs by means of communication, dialogue, education and advocacy. Our primary annual activities that work towards theses goals are the Interfaith Panel and the Interfaith Music and Culture Night. The Interfaith Council organizes these events which are open to anyone. We are in a position to advocate for various religious groups by means of our seat on the Student Government Association.

9/11 Proclamation:
The Vanderbilt Interfaith Council, speaking for all of the religious groups who have come together within our organization, would like to express our sorrow for the lives of the victims lost on this day in an act of hate.

We would like to remind our entire community that the views held by those involved in the terrorist acts committed this day five years ago do not in any way represent the views of any religious organization on this campus. It is our mission to dispel the ignorance and hatred that precipitated this act of violence, and which have been spread throughout our society by it. We at Vanderbilt must be able to recognize that the beautiful mosaic of religions and cultures that exist here on our campus and in our community can only be held together by the moral glue of understanding and respect. We must be diligent in our mission to promote these values and to encourage others to appreciate the beauty and strength that come from understanding and embracing our differences as well as our commonalities.
(words by Josh Arenth and approved by Council vote)
