The Last Word with Andrew Mays  printer

Mays

Ever catch a glimpse of Batman walking into Alumni Hall? How about a Ghostbuster charging into Kirkland with a proton pack? No, you weren’t dreaming – it was Andrew Mays, webmaster for Development and Alumni Relations and costumer extraordinaire.

“I’ve always loved Halloween,” he said. “As a kid, my parents helped me make my costumes. They put lots of effort into transforming me into a mummy or a werewolf, and it was those early costuming experiences that got me started.”
Making and wearing his own costumes has afforded Mays some rare experiences on campus.

“Last Halloween I wore my Batman costume to a business meeting with some former colleagues at Management Information Systems. That was fun,” he said.

So how does Mays respond to people who are baffled by his unusual hobby?

“Some guys paint their faces, draw numbers on their chests and wear goofy wigs and hats to football games,” he said. “The attire is a little different, but the fanaticism is basically the same.”

Mays’ next project? A Web site for pirate aficionados. It’s even got an appropriate URL: www.yargh.com.
