Campus parking to be affected by Commencement activities  printer 

Commencement activities will begin on Wednesday, May 9, and will affect traffic and parking throughout Vanderbilt’s campus. The following provides information on lot closings and general parking information:

VU permit parking – VU permit holders may park in appropriate zone lots that are not listed on the closed parking list. The purple permit will not be issued this year. Terrace Place garage and other open Zone 2 parking is available to all Zone 2 permit holders.

Closed parking May 10-11 (Senior Day and Commencement):

• All parking meters along West End Avenue from 21st Avenue South to 25th Avenue;

• Lots 2 and 3 bordering West End Avenue;

• Lots 4, 5 and 6B along 21st Avenue South from West End Avenue to Scarritt Place;

• Lots 90 and 96 on the Peabody campus;

• Lot 71 next to Memorial Gym (only in the event of rain).


Public parking May 10-11 – 25th Avenue staff garage (at 25th Avenue South and Highland Avenue) will be open to guests attending Senior Class Day on May 10 and Commencement on May 11. Shuttles will run from the garage to Alumni Lawn from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. May 10, and from 7 to 9:30 a.m. May 11. VUPD will be on site to assist.

Disability parking May 10-11 – Vanderbilt has reserved a limited number of parking spaces for guests with mobility impairments. To park in one of these spaces, a Commencement 2007 disability permit is required in addition to a disability license plate or hanging placard.

A limited number of wheelchairs are available for loan by prior reservation, and an area within the seating section on Alumni Lawn is reserved for wheelchair use. Please contact the Opportunity Development Center at 322-4705 for further information.

The Party parking May 9 – Lots 76, 77, 82, 90, 95, 96 and 111 will be reserved for Party guests and volunteers the evening of May 9. Zone 1 permit holders are encouraged to vacate these lots by 5 p.m. Metered spaces on 19th Avenue also will be available to guests.

Faculty and staff are encouraged to allow for extra time to park during the mornings of Commencement week.
