Join Vanderbilt’s celebrated chefs, registered dietitians, and expert guest for healthy cooking demonstrations along with tasty samples and recipes.

Presented by the Vanderbilt Recreation and Wellness Center and Health Plus

Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s Executive Chef George Moran provided an outstanding cooking demonstration at the Vandy Cooks on Friday, February 27th.  The event began at noon in the Vanderbilt Recreation and Wellness Center’s demonstration kitchen. While all recipes prepared were delicious, Chef George shares a sandwich recipe for those unable to attend.  Get the recipe here: Kale and Red Onion Grilled Cheese Sandwich.

Thursday March 26, 5:30 – 6:30 PM Vandy Cooks with Sous Chef Brian Hancock

Vanderbilt Dining Sous Chef Brian Hancock is new to the Vanderbilt campus and anxious to share his culinary expertise and passion. In his new role, Sous Chef Hancock is over the athletic Training Table. Make plans to join and welcome Brian at the upcoming Vandy Cooks Thursday March 26, 5:30 – 6:30PM at the Vanderbilt Recreation and Wellness Center Demonstration Kitchen.  He will prepare creative healthy dishes to share with friends and family at picnics, tailgating or other game day parties.

Taste Hancock’s creations and receive recipes for dishes at your upcoming festive occasions.

Friday, April 17, 12 -1 PM Vandy Cooks with Chef Justin Eaton

Vanderbilt Dining Chef Justin Eaton will provide this healthy cooking demonstration and share his culinary expertise with all attending. Recipes and samples shared for all attending.

Friday, May 15, 12 -1 PM Vandy Cooks with Registered Dietitian Sarah Kraynak

Join Sarah Kraynak, registered dietitian with Second Harvest as she prepares budget friendly, heart healthy, simple and delicious recipes. All attending are invited to bring a nonperishable food item for the Second Harvest Food Bank (optional, but appreciated).

Friday, June 5, 12 -1 PM Vandy Cooks with Laura Marbury

June is National Dairy Month! Come celebrate by joining Laura Marbury, MS, RD, LD as she uses culinary solutions to create delicious recipes with dairy products.
Laura Marbury, a registered dietitian, is the nutrition affairs program manager for the Southeast Dairy Association. She is very experienced in conducting television, radio and print interviews on nutrition throughout Tennessee and Kentucky. Her expertise in nutrition and media interest have opened the door for opportunities such as working in Southern Living’s test kitchen and editorial department.

Tuesday, July 21, 12 -1 PM Vandy Cooks with Valerie Bass

The Vanderbilt Recreation and Wellness Center and Health Plus invite you to join Valerie M. Bass, Executive Director, Tennessee Beef Industry Council, in celebration of Beef Month. She will be preparing heart healthy beef recipes at the July Vandy Cooks demonstration.

 

The Vandy Cooks demonstrations are offered monthly in the Vanderbilt Recreation and wellness Center’s Demonstration Kitchen to celebrate healthy eating at Vanderbilt.

Nutrition minute held once a week at the VRWC will offer quick tips on ways to maintain healthy eating habits.

Feel free to stop in for a minute or stay the whole time. Nutrition Minute is help in the lobby of the VRWC.

Stop by and celebrate National Eye Health Month while learning about the role of nutrition in healthy vision. Enjoy samples of foods that support ‘eye health’.

Wednesday, April 8, 1:30– 2:30 PM –  Chickpeas Roasted for Added Flavor

Asian-inspired flavors of ginger, garlic and sesame oil pack a big punch for these roasted chickpeas. Taste samples and receive the recipe preparing a flavorful dish for an upcoming meal or snack.

Thursday, April 16, 4– 5 PM –  Portion vs. Serving

Check out a portion of food vs a serving. Learn quick and easy tips for consuming ‘a serving’ of food to avoid overeating, support weight maintenance, and getting a variety of food.  At this ‘grab and go’ information station, enjoy a serving of a favored comfort food.

Monday, April 20, 8 – 9 AM –  Breakfast Anytime!

Stop by and try a global morning meal favorite that will make a delicious dish for breakfast or anytime. Recipe for the dish served will be available.

Tuesday, April 28, 3 – 4 PM – From Tap to Table – Maple Syrup

Maple syrup from New England – Learn about the history of this sweet product. Try the Sea Salt Caramel Macaroon Bar made with this syrup and take home a recipe.
