INTRAMURAL CO-REC SOFTBALL RULES SUPPLEMENT

  1. TEAMS NEED AT LEAST 9 PLAYERS TO START AND FINISH THE GAME. TEAMS ARE 5 MEN AND 5 WOMEN
  2. TEAMS MAY PLAY WITH 4 WOMEN, BUT ONLY 5 MEN.
  3. MEN AND WOMEN MAY OCCUPY ANY POSITION IN THE FIELD. HOWEVER, ONCE THE INNING HAS BEGUN PLAYERS MUST REMAIN IN THE SAME POSITION FOR THE ENTIRE INNNING. EXCEPTIONS: PITCHER CAN BE RELIEVED AND SHORTFIELDER CAN SWITCH FIELDS
  4. MEN AND WOMEN MUST ALTERNATE IN THE BATTING ORDER. IF ONLY 9 PLAYERS ARE PLAYING, TWO MEN CAN BAT CONSECUTIVELY. IF A TEAM CHOOSES TO PLAY WITH AN EXTRA PLAYER (EP), 12 PLAYERS MAY BAT AND ANY TEN MAY PLAY DEFENSE (5 MEN OR 5 WOMEN).
  5. BATTERS WILL WALK ON THE THIRD BALL, AND STRIKE OUT ON THE SECOND STRIKE. WITH (1) STRIKE CALLED, ANY TYPE OF FOUL BALL RESULTS IN THE BATTER BING DECLARED OUT. IF THE FOUL BALL IS CAUGHT, RUNNERS MAY ADVANCE AT THEIR OWN RISK.
  6. IF A MALE BATTER IS WALKED AND HAS NO STRIKES CALLED ON HIM, THEN THE FEMALE FOLLOWING HIM IN THE BATTING ORDER HAS HER CHOICE OF BATTING OR TAKING AN AUTOMATIC WALK.
  7. SLIDING IS PERMITTED.
  8. OUTFIELDERS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO POSITION THEMSELVES WITHIN FIVE YARDS OF THE INFIELD.
