The National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association is a manifestation of the strong interest in recreational sports activities considered by our society to be a desirable part of the educational and life maturation process. The Association was founded in an interest for the welfare of the great numbers of individuals seeking recreational and physical benefits to complement their lives. These individuals are served through the improvement of recreational sports programs by dissemination of ideas and processes developed by the membership. Promotion of excellence in the broad areas of intramurals, fitness, wellness, club, and recreational sports activities is the legitimate concern of this organization.
An organization’s mission statement offers members a basis of understanding and purpose for all activities pursued in the name of the association. Thus, a focus is provided. The NIRSA mission statement provides this sense of purpose and direction.
NIRSA is a leader in higher education and the advocate for the advancement of recreation, sport, and wellness by providing educational and developmental opportunities, generating and sharing knowledge, and promoting networking and growth for our members.
NIRSA is the premier association of leaders in higher education who transform lives and inspire the development of healthy communities world-wide.
