Alex Currie
Alex Currie is the associate director of federal relations in Vanderbilt’s Office of Federal Relations. Focusing primarily on healthcare issues and biomedical research, he is responsible for working with members of the university community to advance priorities of Vanderbilt University and Medical Center before federal agencies and Congress.
Prior to joining Vanderbilt, Alex served as senior legislative assistant to former Senator Richard Lugar of Indiana. In this capacity, he was the principle healthcare policy adviser to a senior member of the Senate and worked regularly with state and local officials, universities, hospitals, and other healthcare stakeholders in his home state of Indiana. Alex also served as assistant legislative director within Senator Lugar’s office. Prior to these roles, he worked as a staff assistant on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
A graduate of Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey, Alex has a bachelor’s degree in diplomacy and international relations. His education included terms of study in Paris, France, and Freiburg, Germany. A collegiate athlete, he continues to be an avid runner and biker. His latest hobby out of the office is cyclo-cross racing—a cycling discipline that requires in-motion dismounts and remounts to overcome course obstacles.
