Research Area: Cognition and Cognitive Neuroscience

My primary research interests include behavioral approaches to the study of visual cognition, with interest in both top-down and bottom-up influences on visual attention. In particular, I am interested in applications of this basic research to the further understanding of our ability to effectively use and interact with current and emerging technologies (e.g., computers, robots).

I also currently study the role of prediction in event segmentation and perception. In particular: To what degree do we engage in conceptual prediction when perceiving events? Are any predictions we make truly automatic? And if we do make predictions, are we able to reliably use them to determine when an event deviates from our event model?
