The faculty strongly urges students majoring in political science to include calculus, statistics, economics, history, philosophy, and sociology in their curriculum. Advisers will help students make the appropriate selections. Neither the College nor the department requires majors to do related work (a minor).
Graduate Courses Qualified undergraduates may enroll in graduate courses with the consent of their adviser, the course instructor, and the Dean of the Graduate School.
Honors Program Information concerning admission to and requirements of the departmental honors program is available from the departmental Director of Undergraduate Studies.
The program requires:

that the student has completed all but 6 hours of CPLE requirements,
-
that the student has a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.4,
-
that the student exhibit to the department other evidence as may be required to indicate capacity for independent study,
-
that the student complete 12 hours of directed readings and independent research, normally taking 290A-290B during the junior year, and 299A-299B during the senior year,
-
an honors thesis to be completed by the spring semester of the senior year,
-
successful completion of an honors comprehensive oral examination during the second semester of the senior year.
To Declare Your Major in Political Science Visit the department office (Calhoun 301) for help in choosing an adviser. You will also obtain the two Major Declaration cards (3 if you are double-majoring) at that time. Once your new major adviser has signed all of the Major Declaration cards, leave one in Calhoun 301, take the other to the A&S Registrar's Office in Kirkland 311 (If you are double-majoring, the third Declaration card goes to the department office for your second major.)If you have questions about the process or anything else related to declaring your major, please do not hesistate to ask.
