Projects or activities that the department may use discretionary gifts to fund or support include:

• naming or endowing professorships

• undergraduate professional travel and research

• graduate fellowships and stipend supplements to attract especially able students

• graduate student research efforts and costs for travel to present graduate student research at major professional research meetings

• events promoting effective research and teaching by faculty members

• improvement of the physical facilities of the department: Naming opportunities for our venerable Politics Study Center and seminar rooms, for example

• speakers of professional and public interest
