The Department of Political Science offers the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) and Master of Arts (M.A.) degrees to qualified graduates of accredited U.S. universities and their equivalents abroad.

Ph.D.
The Department's graduate program is primarily focued on the training of Ph.D.s. It admits few students who wish to study for the M.A. only.

4 + 1 Program
In cooperation with the College of Arts and Science, the department offers a "4 + 1" program that allows qualified undergraduates to earn both a bachelor's and master's degree within a five year period. This program is currently available only to Vanderbilt students.
