| PRINT MEDIA, INC. You can count on the underdog to strive twice as hard to earn a customer´s business, offering better products, better service, and better pricing. Print Media is an underdog without a doubt. A minority owned, veteran owned, and small business enterprise with a colossal market competitor. Print Media has a standing in the industry, earned with eager customer service and innovative, cost-effective products. But the success story with Vanderbilt University not only encompasses these attributes of this small successful company, it´s a story of overcoming obstacles, of perseverance, and of persistence. It was the fall of 2002 when Print Media introduced itself to John Irvin and the Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Fresh from being awarded its first GPO contract with Premier, a dual source award for Medical Recording Chart Papers and Related Products along with industry giant Tyco Healthcare, the incumbent supplier at the time. It was David versus Goliath of the new millennium! Here was tiny Print Media, a virtually unknown "HUB" manufacturer in the acute care market taking on the market giant that had over 95% market share at the time. This is a story of perseverance, overcoming setbacks, and gutting it out against huge odds. For the next 46 months, yes close to 4 years, Print Media made over 200 combined phone calls, e-mails, cross reference lists, scheduled meetings, interviews and presentations to procurement personnel, value analysis committees and department heads in order to gain recognition, provide samples, and secure clinical evaluations. There was never doubt about the savings and value Print Media could bring to Vanderbilt. It was about gaining credibility, forming relationships and being given the opportunity. From the outset and all along the way, allies were found in John Irvin and the Office of Supplier Diversity, as well as David Bearden and Lorrie Pope of the Medical Procurement Team. Their collaborative efforts assisted Print Media in gaining ground and recognition during the process. The breakthrough came in October of 2005 with complete clinical approval of Print Media´s product line by the value analysis committee. By the end of October 2005, Print Media had received its first purchase order and by May of 2006, Vanderbilt was well over 85% compliant to a newly awarded Premier contract. Vanderbilt has realized tremendous savings with the change and remains one of Print Media´s top hospital customers today. And meanwhile the David of the market has successfully secured other GPO contracts and has captured over 15% of the chart paper market share using the same success formula that earned the business at Vanderbilt. 2008 will be the 15 year anniversary for Print Media and it will bring added success to the Vanderbilt relationship as they introduce an expanded product offering as an authorized reseller for Zebra Technologies. Zebra´s product line of thermal barcode printers, barcode labels and patient safety identification wristbands are now available from Print Media. The incorporation of this technology and product offering can provide Vanderbilt with improved efficiency, security, safety and savings in admissions, pharmacy, laboratory, materials management and bedside care.
