New Version of Angular Momentum Conservation

Demo Description

Pasco rotating chair  and modified Pasco Bicycle wheel substituted for Dentist Chair and old rim-loaded bike wheels.

Scientific Principles

One may spin a rim-loaded bike wheel up to large spin angular momentum and show generation of spin angular momentum of the 'lecturer-wheel-chair'  system ,  when the lecturer forces the wheel  to swap ends.

Equipment

See photos.

Equipment Location

 [E-3-3]

Instructions

The first photos show the new bike wheel with its shop made air foils.

It is hanging from the ceiling cord in the lecture hall (with no spin) in the  first photo. This is the expected behavior for releasing the wheel from an axle- horizontal configuration

The second photo has captured the wheels precessional and spin motions after  having given the wheel a  large spin angular momentum with  the device shown in photo three, and then releasing the wheel from a horizontal axis configuration.

The third photo shows the motor with friction disk used to spin the wheel up to speed for the demo.

The fourth photo shows the new  rotating chair to replace the old barber chair.
