Demo Description

Lenz's Law is shown by rings jumping off a solenoid.

Scientific Principles

Induced currents in tubular metal rings interact with the changing currents in the solenoid which set up the ring currents.

Instructions

The photo shows the Pasco EM-8661 Ring Launcher, with accessories, which is the shiny version of the old Elihu Thomas Ring Popper described in (044).

Two masses of aluminum rings, one split aluminum ring and a copper ring are available, as well as an incandescent bulb hooked to a coil.
