HOMEPAGE OF THE VANDERBILT MATERIALS PHYSICS GROUP

The research vision and goal of the group is to create and understand the properties of matter at the nano-scale and the atomic scale. The focus is primarily on semiconductor and semiconductor-like materials. Much of the expertise within the group is the use of ion beam techniques for both synthesis and analysis. The educational goal is to provide fore-front research experiences to PhD-seeking graduate students to pursue research careers in industry, academia or national laboratories.

The group is primarily concerned with the synthesis and properties of nano-scale electronically and optically-active materials. We focus on establishing the correlation between the materials properties and the electronic/optical activity of these structures.

Nano-scale/atomic-scale problems of interest range form the careful control of semiconductor-dielectric interfaces to radiation damage in nano-structures to the use of ion beams for the fabrication of nano-fluidic structures.
