Vanderbilt University's Center for Molecular and Atomic Studies at Surfaces (CMASS) has active research programs in linear and non-linear optics, time-resolved ultra-fast spectroscopy, and spintronics. Experimental facilities include an array of ultrafast intense lasers (covering mid-infrared to UV) including the Vanderbilt Free Electron Laser (FEL), FTIR, a 9T superconducting magnet, and an ion implantation facility. Specifically, we have research projects in the fields of:
  1. Second Harmonic Generation
  2. Hydrogen Desorption
  3. Spintronics
  4. Coherent Longitudinal Acoustic Phonons
We hope that this work will lead to advances in surfaces and interfaces and in the new science of quantum computing.
