In this section, we describe the scales we have used in studies preceding
and following publication of our model of the parental involvement process
(Hoover-Dempsey & Sandler, 1995, 1997). In the first section below,
we describe all scales developed and used during the course of our recent
three-year study of the parental involvement process (
Hoover-Dempsey & Sandler, 2005). All of these
scales may be accessed through the model-based graphic below. In the second
section, we describe scales used in previous work (these are not included
in the model-based graphic, but may be accessed through links included in
the second section).
Scales based on the model of the parental involvement
process
All of these scales are described more fully and included in:
Hoover-Dempsey, K.V.,
& Sandler, H.M. (2005). Final Performance Report for OERI Grant #
R305T010673: The Social Context of Parental Involvement: A Path to Enhanced
Achievement. Presented to Project Monitor, Institute of Education Sciences,
U.S. Department of Education, March 22, 2005.
Scales at Level I of the model-based graphic below are described much
more fully in:
Walker, J.M., Wilkins,
A.S., Dallaire, J., Sandler, H.M., & Hoover-Dempsey, K.V. (2005).
Parental involvement: Model revision through scale development.
Elementary School Journal, 106(2); 85-104
Please take a moment to read the permission policy for using these scales
in our
Statement of Use.
Please note also that the model-based graphic below conforms to some
extent to our original model of the parental involvement process (Hoover-Dempsey
& Sandler, 1995, 1997) but incorporates some changes in the model suggested
by our work during the OERI/IES-funded study of parental involvement (Hoover-Dempsey
& Sandler, 2005; Walker et al., 2005).
