Peer Relationships

Many persons find it challenging to make transitions such as those from high school to college or from job to job. Leaving old friends and making new friends and establishing a supportive social network can seem overwhelming, especially in environments where there is significant pressure to compete as well as to relate.

We work in conjunction with other campus organizations to assist students who are struggling with forming meaningful relationships. The following statements represent some common thoughts and feelings among Vanderbilt students who were having difficulties with relationships.

1 I do not feel like I have anything to offer others. True False
2 I am often concerned that others are manipulating me or will take advantage of me. True False
3 I often get hurt in relationships. True False
4 In relationships, I often fear that others will leave me. True False
5 I am scared to be vulnerable or express my emotions in relationships. True False
