Leaving Vanderbilt

Vanderbilt has one of the lowest "drop-out" rates in the U.S. However, some students do leave prior to attaining their degrees.

We have worked with many students who were in the process of deciding to stay or leave, and assisted them to make each of those decisions. The following questions come from some of the concerns with which they were dealing.

1 Vanderbilt seems too conservative or liberal for me. True False
2 My socio-economic background is different from that of many students on this campus. True False
3 I feel that students of my racial, ethnic, sexual orientation or cultural background are not readily accepted here. True False
4 Vanderbilt is too socially demanding and/or I have difficulty in social settings. True False
5 The academic demands here are less, or more, than I expected. True False
6 The intellectual stimulation outside class is different than I expected. True False
7 Nashville is too large or too small for my comfort. True False
8 I am experiencing emotional problems which interfere with my adjustment and/or studies. True False
9 I am too little involved with any clubs or organizations on campus or in town. True False
10 I am uncomfortable with the amount of alcohol consumption on campus. True False
11 I am uncomfortable with the high Greek profile here. True False
12 I am concerned about the financial demands that Vanderbilt places on my family. True False
13 I am worried about family members back home. True False
14 I just don't seem to have the motivation to get involved the way others do. True False
