Eating ConcernsEating is controlled by many factors. In addition to appetite and food availability, eating may be related to cultural practices or family and peer relationships. Dieting to a body weight leaner than needed for health is highly promoted by the media as well as in some activities and professions. Sometimes people experience serous disturbances in eating behavior, such as extreme concern about body shape or weight. We have worked with many Vanderbilt men and women who have experienced difficulties with their weight and eating patterns. The following statements come from some of the issues for which clients have received assistance.
