Depression

Depression is one of the most common mental health issues at Vanderbilt and in the general population. It most commonly occurs in people ages 20 to 40. Highly competitive and stressful environments, such as a selective university setting, can be a contributing factor in the development of depression.

We see many students, faculty, and staff struggling with depression ranging from mild to severe. We work closely with Vandy's Student Health Services when medication is part of treatment. People who experience depression do not necessarily endorse the same symptoms. The following statements represent some common thoughts and feelings associated with depression.
