New Process to Access AALAS through IACUC Web Site
In an attempt to ease the process for Vanderbilt Research staff fulfilling their online training requirements, the Office of Animal Welfare Assurance (OAWA) has revised the process to access the required training modules offered through the AALAS Learning Library. Beginning July 8, 2009, the new process is as follows:
- Go directly to the IACUC web site at https://www4.vanderbilt.edu/oor/iacuc/. (Do Not go to the AALAS Learning Library web site for access.)
- Click on the Training Tab on the left; followed by Required Training. Once here, click on the link to the AALAS Learning Library. Simply enter your VU Net ID and password.
- Please note that when entering contact information on the Profile Page, you must enter your Employee ID, not your social security number.
- From My Profile, you can access the required Courses under libraries> Animal Care and Use.
After obtaining valuable feedback from PIs and their research staffs, this new process was developed to reduce confusion with redundant or misplaced IDs and passwords. Now the only ID and password to remember is your VU Net ID and password. If you have any questions on this process, please call Dwyan Young in OAWA at 615-343-0451 or via dwyan.a.young@vanderbilt.edu.
IACUC Approves SOPs
The IACUC Committee at the July 22nd full committee meeting approved the adoption of two SOPs, which are posted on the IACUC web site at https://www4.vanderbilt.edu/oor/iacuc/.
The SOP on Rodent Anesthesia, Surgery and Analgesia specifically outlines the steps that Principal Investigators and their research staff must take to ensure that animals are appropriately assessed and monitored during pre-, intra-, and post-procedural periods. The SOP also addresses the need to ensure that all analgesic regimens are provided and properly documented. This SOP replaces the previous Guidelines for Aseptic Rodent Surgery.
The SOP on Genotyping, which updates the previous SOP on Mouse Genotyping, specifically outlines acceptable methods of tissue collection for the purpose of genotyping mice and zebrafish. Principal Investigators are to describe all procedures performed, as well as ensure appropriate training of all personnel performing the genotyping procedure.
