On May 22 the Senate approved an amendment to its emergency supplemental appropriations package (H.R. 2642) that contains $1.2 billion in FY 2008 funding for science programs, including $400 million for the NIH and $200 million for the National Science Foundation. House, Senate negotiators reach FY 2009 budget agreement

House and Senate negotiators on May 20 signed off on an agreement on the FY 2009 budget resolution. The agreement includes approximately $21 billion more for non-defense discretionary spending than requested by President Bush. Within that total, health programs receive $59.7 billion, which is $5.2 billion higher than the President's budget. The budget resolution also rejects the Administration's proposed cuts to Medicare and Medicaid. The complete story is at aamc.org.
