Research Enterprise Newsletter - May 2008: Education & Training News

CORE offers "conversations" on scholarship in medical education

The Center for Outcomes Research in Education (CORE) is sponsoring a "conversations" forum where faculty can both receive and contribute to:

  • Suggestions for research designs
  • Advice about statistical techniques
  • Overviews of quantitative and qualitative research methods
  • Advice about outcomes and their measurement
  • Comments on drafts of manuscripts
  • Suggestions for journals
  • Resources for additional learning about research in medical education

Participants will drive the agenda for each session. Faculty may suggest a topic or request time on the event RSVP form. Lunch is provided for RSVPs, but all are welcome. Conversations are scheduled on the fourth Monday of each month from 12:00PM-1:00PM in room 306 A&B of Light Hall.

Grants & Contracts training for May

The Office of Grants and Contracts Management offers training programs designed to educate medical center staff on both pre- and post-award research administration. May classes and registration information may be found at vanderbilt.edu/oor/gcm/training/.

  • Q & A with the IRB - 05/19/2008
    Jim Arrington, BA, CIM; Bob Green, BA, CIP; Angela Howard, PhD, CIP; Tony Medure, MA, CIP, RAC; Dave Wieman, CIM
    This will be an open question and answer session with members of the IRB staff. Bring your general or study specific questions and we'll work through them. Lunch will be provided. The session will count toward IRB continuing education requirements.
  • IRB Essentials: Writing an IRB Protocol - 06/23/2008
    Jan Zolkower, BS, CIP, CCRP and Shannon Potter, MLIS, CIM
    This session will cover information about protocol development and writing. Lunch will be provided. The session will count toward IRB continuing education requirements.

GCRC Weekly Skills Workshops slated

The General Clinical Research Center (GCRC) is offering Weekly Skills Workshops every Friday from 8:00 - 9:00 a.m. in the GCRC conference room, A-3210 MCN. Below are topics slated for upcoming workshops, which include a discussion, breakfast and CME credit.
