Research Enterprise Newsletter - April 2008: Funding Opportunities

IOM offers $25,000 award

The Institute of Medicine is now accepting nominations for the 23rd annual Gustav O. Lienhard Award. The award-- a medal and $25,000-- recognizes individuals for outstanding achievement in improving health care services in the United States.

The Gustav O. Lienhard Award honors individuals whose creative or pioneering efforts have appreciably improved personal health services rather than on contributions to the science base of health care. To encourage consideration of the widest possible range of candidates, no eligibility limits are placed on the education and profession of individuals who may be nominated; however, their achievements should be national in scope. For more information on the award, visit iom.edu.

To submit a nomination, use the online nominations form at nationalacademies.org.

Online nominations will be accepted through May 5, 2008. The award will be presented at the IOM s Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C. on October 13, 2008.

From March 31 through May 15, 2008, the Gates Foundation is accepting submissions for the first set of their Grand Challenges Explorations. They are looking for bold, innovative ideas that need a little help to get tested. The twopage, on-line proposals require creative thinking, but no preliminary data. For further information and to submit a proposal, go to gcgh.org. Julie Koh is available if you would like some help with your proposal.
