Research Enterprise Newsletter - April 2007: Funding Opportunities

Damon Runyon Innovation Award

The new Damon Runyon Innovation Award provides funding for extraordinary early career researchers who have an innovative new idea but lack sufficient preliminary data to obtain traditional funding. The research supported by the award must be novel, exceptionally creative, and have the strong potential for high impact in the cancer field. The awards will provide $450,000 in direct costs during a three year award term. Basic and translational/ clinical projects will be considered and individuals with a background in multiple disciplines are especially encouraged to apply. Joint submission from collaborators working in different disciplines will be considered. The deadline for pre-proposals is June 1, 2007. Complete guidelines and application information are available at drcrf.org.

March of Dimes Research into Prevention of Birth Defects

The March of Dimes Research Program invites all qualified scientists with faculty appointments to submit applications for research grants directed at the prevention of birth defects. Research subjects appropriate for support by the March of Dimes include basic biological processes governing development, genetics, clinical studies, studies of reproductive health, environmental toxicology, and social and behavioral studies. Grants, which are awarded for a three-year period, do not cover the recipient's or other faculty salaries. In last year's grant cycle, awarded grants averaged $81,107 per year. Applicants should submit electronically the required administrative information and a Letter of Intent. Deadline is April 30, 2007. Visit the March of Dimes web site for complete program information and application requirements.
