Postdoctoral training openings on neurgenomics grant

Randy Blakely, Ph.D., Director of the Center for Molecular Neuroscience, has training slots open for up to two additional postdoctoral fellows to the Neurogenomics Training Grant. To be appointed on the training grant the individual must have received a Ph.D., M.D., D.O., D.D.S., D.V.M., O.D., D.P.M., Sc.Eng., or D.N.S. by the time of the appointment. The individual must be a citizen or a non-citizen national of the United States or have been lawfully admitted for permanent residence at the time of award.

The award amounts are as follows:$36,996 for Ph.D. fellows and $46,992 for M.D. fellows. These amounts can be supplemented by non-NIH funds. There will be $1,000 available to the fellows to assist with travel to a scientific meeting.A committee will review applications, to consist of 1) the applicant's C.V., 2) a letter from the sponsor reviewing the project to be conducted and how it relates to the mission of the National Institute of Mental Health and training potential in genetic/genomic/molecular approaches, and 3) three reference letters. The reference letters can be those provided for appointment to your laboratory and need not be tailored to this program.

Please submit application materials to Beth Sims in 8140 MRB III by April 1, 2009. Applicants will be reviewed in 1-2 weeks, with appointment available on or after July 1st. Appointments must be taken by June 30, 2010.

Additional DoD Prostate Cancer research funds available

The Fiscal Year 2009 (FY09) Defense Appropriations Act provides $80 million to the Department of Defense Prostate Cancer Research Program (PCRP) to fund research that will eliminate Prostate Cancer.
