Research Enterprise Newsletter - March 2009: Animal Care & Use News

Use of Animal Allergy Program required

Did you know that everyone who does research with animals is required to complete an animal allergen questionnaire each year and return it to Occupational Health? Individuals working with animals are at risk for developing allergy symptoms, which, if left unrecognized, can lead to the development of more significant health effects such as asthma. With early recognition, we can provide a respirator to help control symptoms. We can also help get employees the help they need by assisting with medications or referrals when needed. The questionnaire, required per the IACUC policy, is easily accessed on the OHC web site. Individuals may opt out of the allergy program using a declination form on the same web site.
