IRB launches electronic submission system
Vanderbilt's Institutional Review Board (IRB) launched an electronic submission system (DISCOVR-E) on November 5, 2007. The number of people using the system has steadily increased each month, with 688 unique users in January 2008. For the first time (February 2008), IRB has seen electronic submissions outnumber paper submissions. Don't forget to check the IRB website for upcoming educational opportunities. Some future topics include: the pre-review process, radiation-related issues in research, as well as a basic introduction to the world of research here at Vanderbilt. Please don't hesitate to contact us with any research related questions.
GCM requiring Clinical Trials Patient Costs Template
The Office of Grants & Contracts Management is now requiring inclusion of the Clinical Trials Patient Costs Template (CTPCT) for all grant and subcontract submissions developed in Coeus that involve human subjects research or hospital facilities (such as the GCRC, inpatient units, clinics or labs). This new process is required so that an accurate financial review can be completed and approved by the Vanderbilt Hospital Finance Billing Compliance. Training handouts and a sample exemption form are also available in RATE @ https://www.mc.vanderbilt.edu/gcm/rate/ along with other Coeus handouts. If you have questions about the template, please contact Alison Culley. If you have Coeus questions, please contact Sam Gannon.
GCM places Proposal Hierarchy on hold pending fixes
GCM is currently using the proposal hierarchy feature in Coeus Premium to create PPGs, center grants, etc., using the parent/child function, also known as Proposal Hierarchy. MIT has recently developed bug fixes and corrections to this feature and is in the process of issuing code updates to Coeus Consortium users, including Vanderbilt. Therefore, GCM has placed the use of the Proposal Hierarchy feature on hold and will not be using the function until it is updated. GCM will reintroduce and implement the proposal hierarchy function at a later date; future announcements will follow. Until further notice, please complete one composite proposal shell for PPGs and center grants, etc., using the standard Proposal Development directions for Non-Grants.Gov applications, with certain exceptions. These exceptions are outlined in the revised Other Mechanisms in Coeus Premium Guide, which can be found on the What's New page in RATE.
