Blakely to receive Astrellas Award

Randy Blakely, Ph.D., professor of Neuroscience, has been selected to receive an Astellas Award for 2008. He will receive the award at the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutic (ASPET) Business Meeting on April 5 in San Diego. ASPET is one of the oldest and most prestigious science organizations. The Astrellas award the award recognizes outstanding research "that has had, or potentially will have, a major impact on the pharmacological treatment of disease," according to ASPET.

Hodapp named editor of International Review of Research in Mental Retardation

Robert Hodapp, Ph.D., Director of Research for the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities and Professor in Special Education, has been named the fourth editor of the International Review of Research in Mental Retardation. Begun in 1966, the Review is the longest-running review journal in the intellectual disabilities field and has now published 34 volumes. Hodapp succeeds Laraine Masters Glidden of Saint Mary's College of Maryland. His initial appointment runs through 2012.

Jeff Conn wins PhRMA Foundation Award

Jeff Conn, Ph.D., professor of Pharmacology, will receive the 2008 PhRMA Foundation Award of Excellence, to be presented in April at the Experimental Biology 2008 conference in San Diego. The PhRMA Foundation grants Awards in Excellence to scientists who received a Foundation grant at the outset of their careers in a discipline important to the research-based pharmaceutical industry and went on to distinguish themselves through their scientific and/or academic achievements.

CHGR's Crawford named "Tomorrow's PI"

Dana Crawford, Ph.D., a new faculty investigator in the Center for Human Genetic Research has been recognized as one of "Tomorrow's PIs" by Genome Technology magazine. Crawford is one of only 30 junior faculty across the country recognized for this honor, aimed at rising young investigators and tomorrows stars.
